Hang onto your hats people, because, if you're into travel, your options are going to shoot through the roof within the next decade or so. New trends are already spreading, while others are germinating in the minds of our most innovative travel gurus and CEOs.
1) More and more top-rated hotels are transforming themselves into yoga retreats, fitness centers, wellness nests and broad-ranging spa resorts. And hotels like these are gradually forming their offerings into affordable packages that even the middle class can afford.
2) Would you believe the field of medical tourism is growing? Various procedures, including skilled and intricate plastic surgery is far less expensive in some countries, so many are traveling to "hospitals" with accommodations to rival any four-star hotel and coming back home nipped and tucked with a brand new look.
3) Middle class travelers are discovering that cruises are no longer vacations limited to the affluent. All-inclusive cruise packages make it possible to have accommodations, child care programs, entertainment, unlimited food choices, on-shore excursions, and more for about what it would cost to take the family on a trip to Disney.
4) Custom options for the affluent are multiplying. You can book exclusive land trips detailed to your full desires. You can cruise on a yacht with an intimate group on the Rhine, the Volga River or even the Mekong.
5) A plan is in the works for an underwater hotel called Hydropolis in Dubai off the coast of Jumeirah. In case you didn't know, Dubai is the second largest of the incredibly wealthy United Arab Emirates. The hotel will consist of a facility on land, a connecting tunnel, and a submarine complex. The complex will include luxurious underwater villas, a ballroom, a spa, restaurants, and shops.
6) Luxury Pod hotels are transportable facilities that cater to wherever the hottest tourist spots are globe-wide. These pods are constructed on stilts, have their own waste disposal system, harness solar photovoltaic cells for power, and contain quality rooms for any tourist's budget. In other words, guests could helicopter to the Australian rainforest. If, a few years later, the hot spot became Beijing, China, the pod could be transported there, leaving only a small mark on the environment.
7) Helium-filled airship hotels are very possible now. These will meld the elements of hot air balloon, cruise ship, and airplane into an airship that will cruise at a leisurely pace over large expanses. Talk about awe-inspiring views!
8) Expert, Howard Wolff, claims that holiday space travel is coming right up. The obstacle is not technology-it's only an issue of time and money. The first hotel in space will most likely be a mixed-use project with commercial and research applications.
